There are times where marketing may not quite be the fun it’s made out to be. In fact, sometimes it’s a whole lot of (dull) numbers and not a whole lot of fireworks. If you happen to be finding your marketing duties uninspiring, then there’s a good chance your results are going to be uninspiring too. You see if you’re not into it, then your target audience probably won’t be feeling it either.
Not everyone can work in a quirky environment and there are definitely some brands that are more conservative than others. But don’t let a conservative brand profile stop you from breathing some new life into your campaigns. Even if you can’t incorporate giant chicken costumes into your marketing materials (while staying on brand anyway), there are still ways you can lighten up your campaigns.
3 ways to inject some fun into your marketing
Take them by surprise
If all you’ve ever done are completely serious and to-the-point campaigns then there’s nothing like a little unexpected humour to take your audience by surprise. And think about it, your customers are all probably thinking the same things you are, too many emails, not enough hours in the day. Sleep, work, eat, sleep – repeat! Try to think of ways to add a little whimsy to their day and they’ll remember you for it.
Laugh at yourself
Most people take themselves way too seriously, so a little humour can go a long way. Even if you work in the most boring industry in the world (and especially if you work in the most boring industry in the world) – there are ways you can make your customers smile and engage them with your brand.
Stop making it about you
If customers have subscribed to your emails and/or follow you on social media, chances are they already know who you are and what you do. So rather than talk about your products – why not turn the spotlight on them for a change? Send an anniversary note on the anniversary of a customer’s first order with you, or interact with them about a topic they are interested in. Making your customers feel like real people is always a great way to connect.
