Our 5 favourite Olympics marketing campaigns

For the general population, the Olympics are a time for excitement and national pride, but for the businesses sponsoring the games it’s all about the competition – and we don’t mean between the athletes. All eyes may be on the official competitors, but every brand wants to be the one with all eyes on them, and the competition to have the most impactful marketing campaign is fierce.

The Olympics may be done and dusted for another 4 years, but the mark of any great marketing campaign is how well it’s remembered once the fanfare is over. So, let’s take a look at some of our favourite marketing campaigns from this year’s Rio Olympics.

  1. Procter & Gamble – P&G’s fantastic ‘strong’ campaign plays tribute to tough Mums the world over. Their tagline: it takes someone strong to make someone strong. Check it out. https://youtu.be/MQ3k6BFX2uw
  2. Under Armour – The Under Armour ‘Rule Yourself’ campaign is all about inspiring you to take complete control of your body in order to achieve your goals – and it’s a sight to behold. https://youtu.be/Xh9jAD1ofm4
  3. Apple – Apple always does a great job with their advertising, and this ‘human family’ campaign is no exception. All the content in the campaign was shot using an iPhone, and it’s stunning. https://youtu.be/ztMfBZvZF_Y
  4. Optus – It’s not just the international brands that get in on the Olympics action. Check out this hilarious campaign from Optus for a great example of how to use Aussie humour to market your brand. https://youtu.be/8ytqr7ojFq8
  5. Virgin Media – Virgin use Usain Bolt to showcase their speed in this great campaign. Filled with colour, vibrant graphics and beautiful high speed images this is easily our favourite ad of the season. https://youtu.be/AdGQ43smLoc
